Blog roundup - get organised!

Bliss ©Whitney Fawn 2009

I’ve come across a couple of great illustrators this week. First up is Whitney Fawn, who does the most incredibly detailed and slightly surreal pen and ink work. Simple bold flowing shapes are filled in with tiny intricate details, sometimes comforting, sometimes sinister.

Natsuyo Koizumi is a Japanese expat in Germany. Working mainly in coloured pencil, ink, and cut-paper, her illustration encompasses several different styles, but all with her own unique voice. My favourite of her work is ‘Into…” which to me paints the feeling of stepping out of the drab everyday world into the world of a book.

Not new to me, but a firm personal favourite, is Leslie Patricelli. I came across her books while looking for something to read to my kindergarten EFL students, and instantly fell in love with her simple acrylic paintings. Bright, bold and appealing, she manages to capture the life, emotion and humour of young children. I’d highly recommend her books to any parent or teacher of toddlers – click here to find her books on Amazon.

(P.S. If you want to see my own less-talented efforts, you can see my portfolio on artician.com *lol*)
